Add extra context about Invoice data to CRM records via a single-object report

If you use HubSpot's Invoice tool, you'll know it isn't currently possible to customise the association cards for each Invoice. This hack shows how to get around that!

Currently, when an Invoice is created in HubSpot and associated with a CRM record the right sidebar association cards are not customisable and all look like this:

Additionally, it isn't possible to customise the 'About this Invoice' section when a user clicks to preview more information about an Invoice either.

This means that, in some cases, a lot of relevant context is hidden from the back-end user working in the CRM.

To get around this, host relevant Invoice information on CRM cards via a single-object report.

Step 1: Create your report

  • Navigate to Reports > Create report, and select the 'Single object' report builder from the top.
  • Choose 'Invoices' as your data source
  • Build out your Invoice report, with all the relevant context needed for your back-end users. A table is often a good option here.

Step 2: Customise the CRM record configuration

From the 'Data Management' list in the Settings menu, navigate to the Object you'd like to customise the record layout for to host the Invoice information. Select the 'Record Customisation' tab and then the view you'd like to host the Invoice report on.

Step 3: Create a CRM card to host the Invoice report

From the tab in the middle column you'd like to add the Invoice information to select 'Add cards'. Next select 'Create card'. Scroll down to 'Report', give your card a title and then select the Invoice report built in Step 3.

Select 'Subject' in the filter dropdown to filter data in the report based on the CRM card the report is being viewed from.

And you're done!

Navigate to a CRM record to view your newly added Invoice context!
