Clone a Record

This hack introduces a new "clone a record" feature that allows you to quickly duplicate an existing deal (or other standard record type). It copies over all relevant information, including associations and, optionally, line items, to create a new version of the deal.

Why It's Useful

Sales and service teams often face the frustration of manually copying and pasting data when creating a new version of an existing deal, such as for a renewal or an updated proposal. This new clone feature eliminates that tedious process, making it incredibly useful because it:

  • Saves time and effort: No more manual data entry or copy-pasting, streamlining the creation of new deals.
  • Reduces errors: Automating the data transfer minimises the risk of human error in duplicating deal information.
  • Boosts efficiency: Sales and service teams can quickly spin up new deals, leading to faster workflows and improved productivity.

Maintains consistency: Ensures that essential deal information and associations are accurately carried over to the new deal.

How to Implement It

Here's a step-by-step guide to setting up your custom deal scoring:

Here's how to use the new clone deal feature:

  1. Access an Existing Deal: Open the deal you wish to clone in your system.
  2. Locate the Actions Menu: Look for the "Actions" menu within the deal's interface.
  3. Click "Clone": From the "Actions" menu, select the "Clone" option.
  4. Review the Create Deal Form: A "create deal" form will appear, pre-populated with information from the original deal.
    • Tip: The fields that appear on this form are dictated by your deal create form settings. You might need to adjust your deal create form to ensure all necessary fields are displayed for cloning.
  5. Clone Line Items (Optional): At the bottom of the form, you'll see an option to "clone line items" from the existing deal to the new one. Check this box if you want to duplicate the associated products or services.
  6. Confirm and Clone: Once you've reviewed the pre-filled information and made any necessary adjustments, click "Clone."

Result: A new deal will be created with the word "clone" in its title, containing all the copied information and associations from the original deal.
