How to Boost UX in HubSpot with Smarter Dropdown Ordering

Ever had to scroll through 200+ country names to find “United Kingdom”? Whether it’s a prospect filling out a form or a team member updating a contact record - bad dropdown ordering is a poor experience. Here’s how to improve it.

The Problem

Long dropdown lists in HubSpot can be frustrating:

  • On external forms, key options get buried, hurting conversion
  • For internal CRM users, repetitive scrolling wastes time and invites mistakes

The Fix: Prioritise Common Values at the Top

In HubSpot, you can control the display order of property options.
To make life easier for everyone:

  • Keep options in alphabetical order for clarity
  • Move your most common option to the top (e.g. “United Kingdom” if most leads are UK-based)

You don’t need to drag an option from the bottom of the list to the top.
Just type '1' in the sort order field next to the value you want first.
Done. No endless dragging!

Inputting '1' moves the property option to the top of the list in HubSpot

  • Improves speed + accuracy for your sales and support teams
  • Makes it easier for prospects to complete forms quickly
  • Reduces form friction = more conversions

Plus, with the newer HubSpot form builder, you can now search and filter dropdown options when editing fields—so managing long lists is easier than ever.

Small change, big impact. Better UX for everyone using your CRM or forms.
