How to Create Dynamic Sequences in HubSpot

Dynamic sequences in HubSpot allow you to combine automated outreach with personalized, rep-led follow-up actions that trigger based on recipient engagement. Here's how to set one up.

This hack allows you to efficiently manage large-scale outreach while giving special attention to those showing interest in your communications.

Getting Started

  1. Navigate to Automations in your HubSpot portal and select Sequences from the menu

Creating a Dynamic Sequence

  1. Click the Create sequence button
  2. Select the Dynamic sequence option (instead of starting from scratch)

Setting Up the Automated Outreach

  1. Add your initial automated email to the sequence
  2. Configure the timing between emails as needed
  3. Add additional automated emails to create your initial outreach stream

Configuring the Rep-Led Engagement Path

  1. Click on the Signals button in your sequence
  2. Define engagement criteria that will trigger rep-led actions (e.g., "two email opens or one email click")
  3. Once these criteria are met, the automated sequence will pause for that contact

Adding Rep-Led Follow-Up Tasks

After a contact meets your engagement criteria, you can add various follow-up tasks:

  1. Add a Call task for direct phone outreach
  2. Add a Manual email task for a personalised message
  3. Add a LinkedIn connection request or other social outreach

How It Works

  • Your automated emails will be sent to your entire contact list
  • As individuals engage with your emails based on your defined criteria, they'll be moved to the rep-led track
  • The automated sequence pauses for these engaged contacts
  • Your sales reps can then follow up with more personalised content
  • Contacts who don't engage will continue receiving the automated emails
