How to Master Your HubSpot Portal: Advanced Segmentation
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for leveraging the powerful new Segments feature (formerly Lists).
Managing and Using Segments (Formerly Lists)
HubSpot has renamed Lists to Segments, introducing a more powerful and versatile way to manage your audience.
A. Get Started with Segments
- Familiarise Yourself with the Change: Understand that active and static lists are now called active and static segments.
- Enable New Features: To access the latest tools, check for available public betas.
- How to activate: Navigate to the Segments tool and click ‘See available betas’. In your settings, you can find and request access to new features like the enhanced segment builder and granular filter insights.
B. Explore New Segment Features
- Check Where Segments Are Used: Use the ‘Used In’ view to see exactly which campaigns, emails, blogs, or bots are using a specific segment. This is helpful for understanding a segment's impact and for cleanup.
- Analyse Segment Performance: Go to the ‘Analyze’ tab to see segment usage data and performance breakdowns. Here, you can also see the ‘Available channels’ for a segment, such as email, SMS, and connected ad accounts.
C. How to Create a New Segment
The new segment builder offers a guided experience with improved AI suggestions.
- Start Creating: Click ‘Create segment’.
- Build Your Criteria: Use the guided builder to easily add inclusion and exclusion criteria for your segment.
- Test Your Segment: Use the ‘Test matches’ feature to see a preview of contacts who fit your criteria and what percentage of your total database this represents.
- Generate a Description: Use the AI feature to generate a clear description of the segment’s purpose for your team.
- Save and Process: Choose whether the segment is active or static, then save and process it.
By following these instructions, you can maintain a healthier, more efficient HubSpot account and take full advantage of the advanced segmentation tools available.
