How to Track and Report on Child Companies Within a Parent Account

Use HubSpot's "Associated Object" filtering to create lists and reports that provide a clear and organised view of complex buying groups.

Managing relationships with large buying groups can be a challenge. Tracking individual companies within a parent organisation, along with their associated deals, tasks, and interactions, can quickly become overwhelming.

HubSpot's "Associated Object" filtering, combined with custom lists and reports, provides a powerful way to gain clarity and control over complex buying groups.

Here's how to set up a system for tracking a specific group of companies:

1. Create a Company-Based List

  • Name: [Parent Company Name] Buying Group
  • Filtering On: Company (Associated Object)
  • Filters:
    • Company Properties > Parent Company > is equal to > [Parent Company Name]

This creates a dynamic list of all companies associated with the specified parent company, ensuring it stays updated as you add new child companies.

2. Leverage Your List for Targeted Reporting and Views

  • Reports: Use your new list as a filter in your reports to analyse data specific to this buying group. Create custom reports to track:
    • Number of deals per company. Example below:
    • Sales activity and engagement metrics.
    • Historical value of each company.
  • Filtered Views: Apply the list as a filter to your contacts, deals, and engagements views. This provides a focused view of all activities and interactions related to the buying group.

3. (Optional) Create a Dashboard

Compile your reports and filtered views into a dedicated dashboard for a comprehensive overview of the buying group's status.

This will help monitor deal pipelines, sales performance, and engagement trends within the group. Plus you can share the dashboard with relevant stakeholders to keep everyone informed and aligned.

Bonus Tip: Use custom properties to track specific information relevant to the buying group, such as contract terms, pricing tiers, or key stakeholders within each child company.

By implementing this strategy, you can effectively manage relationships with complex buying groups, track progress, and drive successful outcomes in HubSpot.
